Dry Needling

What’s the Difference?

Dry Needling

Dry needling targets myofascial trigger points — tight, irritable spots in muscles that cause pain, stiffness, or referred pain (e.g., headaches, sciatica-like symptoms). A fine needle is inserted into the trigger point to create a local twitch response, which:

  • Releases muscle knots
  • Increases blood flow
  • Reduces pain and stiffness
  • Restores function and mobility

Commonly used for: neck pain, back pain, shoulder tension, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, sciatica, sports injuries, and more.

Acupuncture

Medical acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and uses fine needles to stimulate specific meridian points in the body. This method aims to restore energy balance (Qi), improve circulation, and activate the nervous system for:

  • Pain relief
  • Stress and anxiety reduction
  • Improved digestion and sleep
  • Enhanced overall well-being

Often used for: chronic pain, migraines, menstrual issues, stress-related tension, arthritis, digestive issues, and more.

What to Expect

Initial Assessment

We evaluate your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals to determine whether dry needling, acupuncture, or a combination is right for you.

Safe, Gentle Needling

A very fine, sterile needle is inserted into targeted points. Most patients feel a dull ache or twitch — but not pain. The procedure is quick and effective.

Complementary Treatment

Needling is often combined with manual therapy, mobility work, and corrective exercises for maximum benefit.

Post-Treatment Sensations

Some mild soreness is normal after needling, like post-workout stiffness. This typically resolves in 24–48 hours.
